We thought that the best way to kick off our new blog was by answering a basic question, WHAT IS A GLUTEN FREE DIET?
According to the Mayo Clinic, a gluten free diet is:
A gluten-free diet is a diet that excludes the protein gluten. Gluten is found in grains such as wheat, barley, rye, and a cross between wheat and rye called triticale.
Gluten free diets are recommended for individuals diagnosed with celiac disease. Celiac disease causes swelling of the small intestines resulting in a variety of symptoms. Eliminating the protein gluten from diets of effected individuals in many cases results results in a vast reduction of displayed symptoms.
